<p><em>Thomas Craig “Tom” Roberts Jr.</em> was born in Hazard, KY to Thomas C. Roberts and Grace Lenore Hatler Roberts. His family moved to Galveston, TX in 1952. In high school, Tom focused on ROTC, rising his senior year to become corps commander and leader of the precision military drill team prior to applying and being accepted at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.</p>
<p>Tom, also known as “T.C.,” was a proud member of the Rugby, Water Polo and Water Ski clubs. He had a unique relationship with the Academy and achieved a double century for 200 hours walking the Area as penance. His yearbook caption reads, “And now, after four years of incalculable encounters with the Tactical Department, Tom leaves only legend behind him and takes with him the staunch and enduring friendship of every man who knew him.”</p>
<p>Graduating in 1964, Tom attended Airborne and Ranger schools before marrying Pat Seidenspinner, who later gave birth to their son Thomas C. Roberts III in Turkey. His first assignment was to the Air Defense Military, Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 35th Brigade, where he was a fire control platoon leader and FCO of a Nike Hercules unit. He was then transferred to a JUSMAG in Athens, Greece as a first lieutenant and aide-de-camp to General Sam Eaton, who was the deputy commanding general of Southern NATO. An inter-theater transfer landed Tom in Flint Kaserne, Germany with the 10th Special Forces Group, where he earned his Green Beret. There he led A-Team ODA 015-R on missions in the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia, including two tours in Vietnam.</p>
<p>For his actions in combat, Tom was awarded a Purple Heart, the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars with “V” device, the Air Medal, the South Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Palm, and the Combat Infantryman Badge. For his non-combatant service, he received an Army Commendation Medal, a Joint Services Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and a Vietnam Campaign Medal, as well as airborne, Ranger, Special Forces, and Expert Infantryman qualifications.</p>
<p>After leaving the Army as captain in 1968, Tom married Trecia D. Stevens, adopted her three children, joined Schlumberger Ltd., and moved with his family to Paris, France in 1969. In 1979, he was appointed EVP and chief financial officer of Schlumberger Ltd. in New York and from 1981 to 1985 was CEO of Schlumberger’s Fairchild Global Electronics Group in Silicon Valley. From 1985 to 1989, prior to his active retirement as an angel investor and board member, Tom was involved in the restructuring and financial turnaround of Control Data Corporation in Minneapolis, MN.</p>
<p>Tom is survived by his wife, four children and their spouses, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.</p>
