Thomas Wright “Tom” Keeley, the son of Mary (Gootee) and Frank Wright Keeley, was born in Pittsburgh, PA. Tom graduated from Pitcairn High School, where he was the student body president and a football player. In his preparation for West Point, he attended Pennsylvania State College for one year. Tom received a congressional appointment to the Academy from Farmar D. Denny of the 28th Congressional District in Pennsylvania.

Tom participated in lacrosse during plebe year and was involved in the Dialectic Society and the Hop Committee all four years. Participating in the Sailing Club for three years provided the foundation for teaching his kids to sail in later years. He was a company commander (E-1) during senior class year, and, during the summer vacation prior to Tom’s senior class year, he toured Europe—not yet realizing his future connection to England.

Following graduation, as a first lieutenant, Tom married Cynthia Carol Hess on June 4, 1957. He was assigned to the 35th Infantry Division and attended the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Ranger School, and the basic airborne course at Fort Benning, GA. From there he moved to Schofield Barracks, HI as an Infantry officer and teacher. Tom was assigned for two remaining years, after which he resigned from military service and entered civilian life.

Tom received his Master of Science from Syracuse University in 1962 and was briefly employed by General Electric.

Tom’s passion for leading and educating resulted in him entering the educational field, teaching physics at the Landon School for Boys in Bethesda, MD and at St. Marks School of Texas in Dallas, where he became an avid and lifelong supporter of the Dallas Cowboys (having taught Cowboys’ coach, Tom Landry’s son as a student). He went on to become the headmaster of North State Academy in Hickory, NC and of Canton Country Day School in Ohio.

Tom’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to start both ProjectaVision and Budget Indoor Tennis before finding his niche in human resources at the Hoover Company in Canton. He would ascend to the director of human resources for the Lubrizol Corporation in Ohio before transferring to the company’s operations in Hazelwood, England.

Tom and Cindy uncovered a wonderful life in England, raising Labrador Retrievers and participating in various shooting syndicates. England was their base to explore much of the world, including trips throughout Europe and Africa, notably Egypt. After retiring, Tom and Cindy remained in England, returning to the States in 2016.

Tom was a lifelong learner and enjoyed the history of the world, specifically World War II and particularly anything relating to D-Day. He took a keen interest in the Horsa gliders participation in the D-Day operation and Pegasus Bridge, and Tom developed a close relationship with two of the pilots, Geoff Barkway and Peter Boyle, whom he met while living in England.

In addition to Tom’s huge pride in being a member of the Long Gray Line, he cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren. Tom is survived by his wife, Cindy; his children: Rik (Kathy), Carolyn Matheson, Jeff (Laurie) and Rod (Lisa); his sister Nancy; and his grandchildren: Alleiah, Connor, Audrey (Austin), Joe (Alexandra), Samantha (Curtis), Alexis, Colin and Madison. Tom was preceded in death by his son Jonathan and his sister Sandra.
