LTC Robert K. Beale ’02 Presented Nininger Award

LTC Robert Beale ’02 received the 2022 Alexander R. Nininger Award from WPAOG during a dinner with the Corps of Cadets. Beale, who has been deployed more than a dozen times during his career, is currently serving at U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command at Fort Bragg, NC. In September 2011, then Captain Beale displayed exceptional valor, courage, and leadership as the Pilot and Air Mission Commander (AMC) for 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) while assigned to the Combined Joint Special Operations Air Component in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan earning Beale a Silver Star for his actions on that day. Historic Gift for the Long Gray Line

The Honorable Robert A. McDonald, Class of 1975, and his wife Diane, have committed $10 million in support of the West Point Association of Graduates. To recognize this tremendous and historic gift, the largest ever in support of WPAOG, the President and CEO position, as well as the President’s office suite at Herbert Hall, have been named for Bob and Diane. Their philanthropic leadership is recognized as the largest lifetime giving donors to WPAOG, top five lifetime giving to the Academy, and, at this time, as the lead donors to the Class of 1975 50th Reunion Class Gift. The McDonalds’ enduring commitment to West Point and WPAOG, both in volunteer leadership and generosity, is an inspiration. Read more.

Ken Fisher Awarded 2022 Sylvanus Thayer Award

Philanthropist Kenneth Fisher received the 2022 Sylvanus Thayer Award during ceremonies hosted by LTG Steve Gilland '90, 61st Superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. The Corps of Cadets conducted a parade in his honor prior to the award presentation dinner. Read more.

Systems Cadets Head to NFL Films

Meet the team of West Point Department of Systems Engineering Class of 2023 Cadets Henry Jensen, Victoria Sangvic, Ross Friedrick, Jacob Sayers and their advisor Ms. Hyeyon Bastian, who are working with WPAOG on their capstone! As part of the research phase, the team took a trip to NFL Films to learn more about data analysis, social media, and video production. In April, this capstone group will present their work at the GEN Donald R. Keith Memorial Capstone Conference held at West Point. Opportunities outside the classroom, like AIADs and trip sections, allow cadets to integrate the lessons learned from the combination of classroom and field study —activities that would not be possible without donors supporting the Margin of Excellence at West Point.

Closing out their regular season home schedule with the annual Star Match, Army West Point Women’s Soccer defeated the Navy Midshipmen 2-0, with goals from Kaitlin Palaian ’24 and Kaelan Bradley ’25. Read more.

Army West Point Men's Soccer took down archrival Navy by a score of 2-0 in the Army-Navy Cup XI to secure the win in the star series and pick up three points in the Patriot League. Read more.

Golf Claims Star with Win Over Navy

The Army West Point Golf team won its third-straight Star Match at West Point Golf Course with a 7-4 victory after earning 4.5 points in Saturday's singles matches. With the win, Army now has a 3-1 lead in this year's Army-Navy Star Series. Read more.

Mark Your Calendars for Basketball

Eighteen Patriot League basketball games will be televised on CBS Sports Network during the 2022-23 season. The Patriot League slate begins on January 9, when Army hosts defending champion Colgate. CBS Sports Network will carry both Army West Point-Navy men’s and women’s basketball doubleheaders on January 21. The teams will square off again in Annapolis on February 11. Read more.

Cadets Earn Bronze at Exercise Cambrian Patrol

Cadets from USMA's Sandhurst teams earned bronze at the 2022 Exercise Cambrian Patrol, a premier patrolling event held in Wales and hosted by Headquarters 160th Welsh Brigade. The cadets competed against 1,000 other soldiers from regular, reserve, and overseas military units from across the world. The event provides a challenging World Class patrol exercise to confirm and enhance basic training standards and mission capability of soldiers in preparation for future operations. The USMA Fall Sandhurst Competition will take place at West Point, October 28-29.

CONNECT Update

  West Point Cadets Visit Highland Falls School
   

The ARES Team and the West Point Model Rocketry Club visited students from the Highland Falls Intermediate School during the CONNECT After School Program. CONNECT is an initiative by WPAOG to provide an after school educational program of engaging activities, extra curriculars, and to bring together the communities of West Point and Highland Falls/Fort Montgomery. Opportunities like the West Point Model Rocketry Club are made possible by donors supporting the Margin of Excellence. Learn more.

Cadets Collaborate at SOCOM Ignite Kickoff

Eleven West Point cadets took their academic acumen on the road recently to participate in the 2023 SOCOM Ignite Kickoff at MIT. In all, over 70 ROTC and West Point cadets worked to develop innovative solutions to SOCOM-submitted technical challenges. The event brought together West Point cadets and ROTC cadets from MIT, Harvard, Texas Tech, Notre Dame and several other schools along with officers in the 75th Innovation Command and technical experts from MIT Lincoln Lab. The WPPC of Greater Houston, with support from the WPPCs of North Texas and South Texas, hosted the 27th Annual Texas Tamale Tailgate (T3) at the ‘49er Lodge at West Point. Over 600 cadets and guests were served a Texas feast including tamales shipped from Houston. T3 Chair Michelle Horn, WPPC of South Texas President Laura Lamoureux, and WPPC of North Texas Representative Jeff Vernier represented the Texas Clubs and presented a check for $2,000 to Todd Browne ’85, The McDonald President & CEO of the West Point Association of Graduates, and WPAOG Parent Giving Officer Shelisa Baskerville.
