On November 30, the West Point Association of Graduates is pleased to be taking part in Giving Tuesday—a global day of celebrating and encouraging philanthropy. During this season we are reminded that every generous act is significant, and each gift in support of West Point truly matters for our cadets, alumni, the Academy, and the nation. Donations are essential to support Margin of Excellence programs for our cadets and keep the Long Gray Line strong. 2021 Fall Sandhurst Military Skills Competition

  2021 Fall Sandhurst Military Skills Competition
   

Teams competed in various events during the annual Fall Sandhurst Military Skills Competition at West Point. During the Fall Sandhurst, 39 teams representing 36 cadet company teams, Sandhurst Black, Sandhurst Gold, and USMAPS compete against one another in a variety of military related contests. The top 12 teams are moving forward to Sandhurst in Spring 2022. Photos. Video.

The West Point Parent Club of Maryland, DC and Virginia hosted its first tailgate during this year’s Parent Weekend. Many unforgettable memories were made as over 150 cadets and families enjoyed a delicious BBQ buffet. The event featured fall-themed decorations, pumpkin carving, and plenty of Halloween sweet treats. COL John Baskerville ’90 and WPAOG Parent Giving Officer Shelisa Baskerville hosted the successful event.

Florida West Point Parent Clubs Host First Tailgate

The West Point Parent Clubs of South and Southwest Florida joined forces to hold their first tailgate at West Point over this year’s Family weekend. Over 65 parents attended the morning breakfast and after game BBQ. All cadets affiliated with both clubs were invited to join in the fun, food and fellowship throughout the day. WPAOG Parent Giving Officer Shelisa Baskerville and USMA Parent Communications Liaison Deb Dalton stopped by and provided a warm welcome to the Florida tailgate “newbies.”

Congratulations to the 12 cadets selected as Stamps Scholars! Stamps Scholars are chosen for their academic excellence, leadership experience, and exceptional character; less than 300 are selected from over 300,000 applicants nationwide. Stamps Scholars benefit from a national network of peers and the opportunity to attend biennial conventions and other events where Scholars investigate pressing issues and learn from accomplished community leaders. At West Point, Stamps Scholars receive $10,000 to use for research and enrichment opportunities. Full story.

Army Football Becomes Bowl Eligible

  Army Football Becomes Bowl Eligible with Victory over Bucknell
   

For the fifth time in six years, the Army West Point football team is Bowl Game eligible thanks to its 63-10 win against Bucknell on November 13 at Michie Stadium. To go along with the excitement of becoming Bowl-eligible in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2017-18, the team surpassed the 50-point mark for the third time in 2021. The Black Knights (6-3) used 486 yards of total offense to achieve the feat and had nine different players reach the end zone in a game that saw both teams battle a flurry of rain, wind, and hail. CDT Ethridge ’25 Earns Volleyball Rookie of the Year

Plebe setter Diana Etheridge of Army West Point Volleyball was named the 2021 Patriot League Rookie of the Year. Ethridge, the Chandler, AZ native, was tabbed Rookie of the Year after tremendous efforts on the court during the regular season posting 898 assists on 96 sets played ranking third in the league for assists per set (9.35). She notched a season-best 61 assists in Army's five-set win over American and dug 23 balls in the team’s win over Sacred Heart earning Patriot League Rookie of the Week three times for her weekend performances in 2021. Also earning Patriot League honors were Paige Fixemer ’24 garnering a spot on first team while Emmy Barnhorst ’22 claimed a spot on the second team for the third time in her career. Full story.

CDT Jones ’24 Named Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Yearling Georgia Jones has been selected as the 2021 Patriot League Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year announced on November 8. Jones is the second Cadet in program history to win the distinguished honor. Jones, a native of Mont Vernon, NH, followed her breakout freshman campaign, in which she was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year, with a record-setting sophomore season. She has been the Cadets' top runner in every race that she has participated in, including winning three events and set personal records in three different race distances. Full story.
