61st Superintendent Takes Command at USMA
On June 27, LTG Steven Gilland ’90 became the 61st Superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy. Gilland holds a masterʼs degree in military operational art and science and has served as the 77th Commandant of Cadets of the U.S. Military Academy, Commanding General of the 2nd Infantry Division, South Korea, and most recently as the Deputy Commanding General 3rd Armored Corps, Fort Hood, TX. WPAOG Welcomes New Cadet Families at Ice Cream Social
The Class of 2026 parents and guardians enjoyed ice cream on a hot summer day at WPAOG’s annual Pre R-Day Ice Cream Social on June 26. Over 1,700 family members pre-registered with WPAOG to take part in the event at Herbert Alumni Center. R-Day for Class of 2026
WPAOG and the 50-Year Affiliation Class of 1976 were on hand during R-Day to welcome parents and families of new cadets into the West Point family. WPAOG provided information, resources, swag, and postcards that family members could fill out to be sent to encourage their cadet during basic training. WPAOG also hosted a BBQ lunch with all the fixin’s for families. View photos.

Cadet Field Training for Class of 2024
Cadet Field Training is a three-to-four-week program of instruction that emphasizes general military skills, individual preparedness training, preparations for extended field operations, and leading, participating in, and conducting small unit tactical operations. The purpose of Cadet Field Training is to develop, train, test, and validate specific tasks; prepare Third Class cadets to assume duties as NCOs in the Corps of Cadets; instill the warrior ethos in each cadet; and inspire each cadet to professional excellence through physically and mentally demanding training. WPAOG Receives Organization of the Year Award
Recognized along with top companies such as IBM, AT&T, Fidelity Financial and Lockheed Martin, WPAOG was honored to be awarded the Organization of the Year Award (Non-Profit or Government – Small) by the American Business Awards, also known as the Stevie Awards. In addition, our work on the 2021 Entrepreneur Summit and 2021 Founders Day events were awarded gold and silver, respectively, and the 2021 TAPS magazine was awarded a bronze. The four Stevie Awards, and 14 awards over the last four years, reflect the dedication of our staff in supporting the Long Gray Line. WPAOG CEO & President Todd Browne ’85 accepted the awards on behalf of WPAOG. Winners were determined by a panel of more than 230 professionals worldwide in the three-month judging process. WPAOG Wins Gold and Silver from CASE
We are pleased to announce WPAOG earned two 2022 Circle of Excellence Awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the premier recognition program for educational advancement. These peer-selected and adjudicated awards honor colleges, universities, and schools worldwide whose talented staff have advanced their organizations with resourcefulness and ingenuity. WPAOG won a Gold Award for the 2021 West Point Entrepreneur Summit: A Long Gray Line Investment in the Special Events Category (In-person multi-day events) and a Silver Award for the 2021 Ring Melt (Class of 2022) in the Video Category (Promotional – short). Air Assault!
Three of the four sessions of Air Assault School at West Point are over and more than 500 cadets now have earned their Air Assault Badge. The Air Assault Badge is awarded by the U.S. Army for successful completion of the Air Assault School, which includes three phases of instruction involving U.S. Army rotary-wing aircraft: combat air assault operations, rigging and slingloading, and rappelling. Advanced Individual Academic Development (AIAD) Trip
Dr. Colleen Eils, Deputy Director of the West Point Writing Center, and a group of cadets finished up their Writing Today AIAD trip to Washington, D.C. During their two-week trip, cadets researched about writing with faculty and journalists, Smithsonian Museum and Folger Shakespeare Library curators, Congressional representatives, and with former analysts and speechwriters in the White House and Pentagon. Opportunities like these are made possible by donors supporting the Margin of Excellence.

CDT Fink ’25 Qualifies for World Junior Championships
CDT Emily Fink ’25 captured the hammer throw at the 2022 USATF U20 Outdoor Championships. Her 59.94m toss on her third attempt moved her into first place, earning her the opportunity to represent Team USA at the World Junior Championships in Cali Colombia from August 2-7. Fink’s outstanding freshman season has seen her break school, facility, Academy, and conference records. She was named Patriot League Outdoor Women’s Rookie of the Meet and named to the First-Team All-Patriot League. Read more.

Men’s Basketball to Play in Inaugural London Basketball Classic
The Army West Point Men's Basketball program will participate in the London Basketball Classic on November 24-26 inside the Copper Box Arena which was the London 2012 Olympic Basketball venue. Army West Point joins Princeton University, Northeastern University, and Manhattan College in the field. Read more.
