Over 1,700 alumni, parents, and fans of Army football gathered on December 11 to celebrate before the big game at the WPAOG Go Army! Beat Navy! Tailgate. Members of the Class of 2022 learned which of the Army’s 17 branches they will be serving after graduation during Branch Night on December 2. More than 50 members of the Class of 1972, their 50-Year Affiliate Class, were able to attend the event with GEN (R) Richard Cody '72 serving as the guest speaker. The Class of 1972 presented all members of the firstie class with their 50-Year Affiliate class coin and their “first brass” branch insignia pins. Photos. Read More.

Cadets Aiden Roberts and Caroline Vincent, Class of 2022, are among the 151 recipients representing 33 countries and 106 universities to receive the prestigious Schwarzman Scholarship for continued academic study following graduation and commissioning in May. The West Point Graduate Scholarship Program is a Margin of Excellence Program and is supported by donor funding. The program consists of a formal course sequence and developmental experiences beyond the classroom. Cadets in the program apply for nationally-competitive scholarships, including the Schwarzman scholarship. Full story.

West Point is first in the nation for Class of 2022 Marshall scholarships. Cadets Tommy Hall, Emma San Martin, and Henry Thompson are three of 41 recipients selected to receive the prestigious Marshall Scholarship for continued academic study following graduation and commissioning in May. Weliver ’19 Leading Elite Airborne Explosive Ordnance Group

 

1LT Delanie A. Weliver ’19

   

1LT Delanie A. Weliver ’19 is leading an elite group of airborne Explosive Ordnance Disposal Soldiers who can deploy on short notice in support of the 82nd Airborne Division. As the 1st Platoon leader for the 722nd Ordnance Company (EOD), Weliver leads ten Army EOD technicians who deploy with the storied airborne division as part of the Immediate Response Force. Weliver comes from a family of West Point graduates; her father, LTC (R) Scott Weliver ’85, mother, Devrie Weliver ’88, sisters Casey Kilpatrick ’12, Caleigh Weliver ’14, and brother Andrew Weliver ’19. Fallen Honored During Wreaths Across America Ceremony

 

Wreaths Across America

   

Each December, Wreaths Across America ensures to conduct wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery and more than 2,500 other locations in all 50 U.S. states. Because of WAA, friends, family, veterans and service members from across the Nation ventured to the U.S. Military Academy to pay their respects to deceased service members and lay a wreath on their gravesites at the West Point Cemetery. Cadets & Undergrad Students Partake In SCUSA Event

  SCUSA Event
   

Cadets and approximately 200 undergraduate students from 125 colleges across the nation convened at Eisenhower Hall to attend the annual Class of 1971 Student Conference on United States Affairs November 3-6. Since 1949, West Point has hosted SCUSA, bringing the nation’s top students from Social Science programs to gather here and discuss matters of national importance. The event is a Margin of Excellence supported program named for the Class of 1971 with additional funding from the Olmsted Foundation. Full story.

CDT Carter ’23 Selected as Associated Press All-American

  Cadet Andre Carter II ’23
   

Cadet Andre Carter II ’23, Army West Point Football Outside Line Backer, was selected as an Associated Press All-American. He is sharing with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish as one of two Independent FBS players selected as All-Americans in 2021. Carter amassed 14.5 total sacks, 16.0 tackles-for-loss, forced four fumbles, blocked one kick, and snared one interception in 12 games played, and recorded 38 total tackles, of which 30 were solo tackles to earn the third-team selection. CDT Aquino III ’23 Named to Puerto Rico Gymnastics National Squad

Miguel Aquino III ’23 of Army West Point Gymnastics has been named to the 2021-22 Puerto Rico Men’s Artistic Gymnastics National Squad, as announced by the Puerto Rican Federation of Gymnastics. Aquino is entering his third season with the Black Knights after competing in 13 meets while wearing the Black & Gold. Read more.

CDT Pereira ’22 Lands on United Soccer Coaches All-Region Team

 
   

Oscar Pereira ’22 added another accolade to his already crowded trophy case as he was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region Second Team. The firstie forward finished the season with seven goals and 20 points to lead the team. His efforts helped the team finish the season with a 7-7-2 season and a run to the Patriot League Semifinals. The Hastings-on-Hudson native finished his collegiate career at West Point with 13 goals and 11 assists to total 37 points in his time with the Army West Point Men’s Soccer team. Full story.

CDT Bilek ’22 Earns AHA Player of the Month Award

  CDT Bilek Earns AHA Player of the Month Award
   

After leading his team to a seven-point month in conference play, Army West Point Hockey Captain, Colin Bilek ’22, was named the Atlantic Hockey Association’s Player of the Month for November. The firstie right wing scored four times and recorded two assists across five games this month to lead the team in points and goals. This is the third monthly honor of Bilek’s career and the second of the season for Army hockey after Gavin Abric ’24 was awarded the AHA Goalie of the Month title in October. Full story.
