West Point 9/11 Remembrance Activities
“This is our Pearl Harbor. When I went to school, I only knew of Pearl Harbor because it was taught to me in history. This is what 9/11 is becoming now. A lot of people are forgetting about it and we shouldn’t.” ‘Never Forget’ appears on screen and then fade to black. These were the words Sue Herr articulated and the sights seen in the final seconds of a 10-plus minute video shown to cadets in the Cadet Mess Hall on 9/11 and available to the West Point community. The video was one of several events that occurred on post to remember the victims of 9/11. Full story.

New Innovations Improve Branching Process
Last year, USMA applied its first-ever market-based branching model to the cadet branching process. This year, despite the pandemic presenting its own challenges, West Point continues to improve its market-based branching approach in an effort to align cadets with the branches where their talents best fit the unique demands of the job. The goal of this branching marketplace, where both cadets and branches influence outcomes, is to encourage more interaction and communication between cadets and branches before both sides submit their final preferences. Marketplace interaction helps shape cadet preferences for branches and how branches rate cadets. Full story.

As West Point Grads answer the call of service, we continue to tell their inspiring stories in our series "Grads in the Fight Against COVID -19." Read about cardiac nurse Monique Washington ’91 who’s supporting fellow nurses during the pandemic, Aaron Dirks ’96 and Chris White ’94, who converted their hot sauce company to make hand sanitizer, and La’Berrick Williams ’05, who’s feeding his community with his BBQ food truck. Physicians and brothers David Hostler ’04 and Christopher Hostler ’07 are both serving on the medical front lines of the COVID battle, along with ER nurse Darlene (Cookie) Wilson ’85 who’s been fighting COVID since April in both New York and Texas. Todd Scattini ’96 has supported COVID-related humanitarian relief in the Republic of Georgia, with help from the local West Point Society there. Reverend Wayne Richardson ’83 is helping to fight COVID-19 in San Joaquin County, where he and his team created the first homeless COVID-19 positive recuperation shelters for men, women and children. Thank you to the Long Gray Line for making a difference with your dedication and service.

Update Your Entry for the 2020 Register of Graduates
It’s been five years since the last Register was published, and we are preparing for the next edition of WPAOG’s oldest publication. This edition will be an indispensable treasury of military history, with individual entries recording the names, classes and careers of every West Point graduate from 1802 to the present. Your career biography should contain as a minimum your military assignments and decorations, and can also include your career after the military. You can help make this issue as up-to-date as possible – just login and update your Register entry at WestPointAOG.org/RegisterUpdate. We plan to open sales in October – so stay tuned!
