Dockery ’11 Receives Medal of Honor for Actions in Afghanistan

MAJ (R) Nicholas Dockery ’11 received the Medal of Honor, our nation’s highest military award, for valor in combat while serving in Afghanistan. Dockery received the honor from President Donald J. Trump at a ceremony in the White House on June 18. He is also the 2017 recipient of the WPAOG Alexander R. Nininger Award for Valor at Arms. Since 1861, more than 3,400 Medals of Honor have been awarded to members of all military services—including 78 West Point graduates—who distinguished themselves conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of their own lives above and beyond the call of duty during combat. Highland Falls Rising Plans for the Future
Local business owners, government officials, and community members gathered for Highland Falls Rising, a half-day leadership and investment forum focused on the future of Highland Falls. During the event, WPAOG’s Hudson Valley Program highlighted the successes of its own revitalization project and shared how it is partnering with local and state officials to advance the next phase of growth for the Gateway to West Point. NASA Mission Crew Includes Frank Rubio ’98
COL Frank Rubio ’98 is preparing for his next mission beyond Earth. The West Point graduate and NASA astronaut has been named mission specialist for Artemis III, a 2027 test flight that will help prepare for Artemis IV, the first planned crewed mission to the lunar South Pole. Rubio, who previously spent 371 days in space and became the first American to spend more than one calendar year in microgravity, continues to represent the Long Gray Line through service, leadership, and exploration. Last Call for Nominations for the 2026 WPAOG Election
In 2026, the WPAOG Nominating Committee will nominate graduates for five Director positions and six Advisor-at-Large positions. To apply for a nomination, please see the instructions posted on the WPAOG website. The deadline for graduates to submit their completed applications is July 1. The 2026 election process will conclude on November 17 at 5:00pm ET, at the Annual Meeting of the Association of Graduates at Herbert Alumni Center. On June 8, attendees at the National Archives Museum in Washington, DC, enjoyed a special screening of Lucky Strike, a new World War II film by director Rod Lurie ’84, based on true events from the Battle of the Bulge. Army Crew Makes History at ACRA 2026
May 15–17, 2026, marked a historic milestone for Army Crew as West Point fielded a complete team for the first time at the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) club national championship, the largest collegiate regatta in the country by entries and teams.
