As the sun rises over the Hudson, new cadets push forward along the riverbank during early morning PT. Every stride during Beast is a test of grit, discipline, and determination. This early morning run is more than a workout as each step is a block in building leaders of character.

As modern warfare grows more complex, West Point continues its transformation to develop leaders who can think, adapt, and innovate across all domains. West Point announced the academic modernization last summer when it joined the departments of Law and Philosophy and aligned English with World Languages. Earlier this month, West Point launched the departments of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Geography and Earth Sciences to better reflect emerging warfare needs. Additionally, the Department of History and War Studies will produce talented leaders with exceptional analytical skills and the judgment to lead and win in an increasingly complex security environment. The deadline for nominations for the 2026 WPAOG Sylvanus Thayer Award and Distinguished Graduate Award is November 3. Please note the following change to the DGA submission policy: While more than 10 endorsement letters will be accepted, if more than 10 endorsement letters are submitted, the coordinator of the packet will include a document that specifies which 10 letters are to be prioritized.  If you have any questions regarding either award process, please email or call  Laurie Fontana at 845.446.1523.
