On January 2, we celebrated the Long Gray Line with our oldest living graduate, COL (R) Raymond Renola ’40.

On January 10, LTC Frank Rubio ‘98 graduated in the first class of astronauts under NASA’s Artemis program, which aims to land the first woman and the next man on the moon by 2024. “After completing more than two years of basic training, these candidates will become eligible for space flight, including assignments to the International Space Station, Artemis missions to the Moon, and ultimately, missions to Mars,” NASA officials said. 2019 was a historic year for WPAOG and the Long Gray Line, including anniversaries of major world events that involved West Point graduates like D-Day, the Apollo 11 Lunar Landing, and the Battle of the Bulge. On December 20, 2019, 21 cadets became the newest members of the Long Gray Line. BG Curtis A. Buzzard ’92, 78th Commandant of Cadets, presided over the ceremony. MG (R) Leroy R. Goff III, COL (R) Michael F. Colacicco and Mr. Mike McGovern of the 50-Year affiliate Class of 1969 handed each graduate their 2LT bars. Photos and list of graduates.

In a letter that recommended now-2LT Camm Johnson as a candidate for the LTG Robert Foley Scholarship of Honor Award, he was described as universally loved and respected by his peers for having an infectiously positive personality by Company C-2 Tactical Officer MAJ Jonathan Leggett. Johnson was someone who went through major obstacles yet emerged from the West Point journey successfully and was recognized as excelling within the four pillars of the academy: academically, militarily, physically and as a leader of character.
