  USMA Class of 2023 Celebrates 500th Night
   

The U.S. Corps of Cadets hosted the 500th Night Banquet for the class of 2023 on January 22. The 500th Night Banquet celebrates the class of 2023 having 500 days until graduation and commissioning as Army officers. The guest speaker was LTG Xavier T. Brunson, who spoke about the importance of hope within the ranks of the military and the nation. Photos. Full story.

  WPAOG Launches CONNECT Program
   

WPAOG, in partnership with the Highland Falls Intermediate School (HFIS), launched CONNECT—an after-school program to provide students with high-quality experiences that support their academics and expand their interests. The theme of this CONNECT session was discipline, health, and fitness. West Point Cadets participated as mentors, discussing nutrition, instructing volleyball and team handball skills, and leading students in activities. The CONNECT program continues on March 3, expanding to a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math curriculum with an aviation session studying flying drones. Read more.

Army Cadets and Navy Midshipmen met on a different field of friendly strife on February 5, a STEM competition, and beat Navy to win the Army-Navy STEM trophy. Thirty-two high school students from Maryland and Virginia attended this competitive engineering event in Annapolis, led by near-peer cadets and midshipmen. Cadets Cynthia Sun ’25, Caleb Peterson ’25, Keno Deary ’23, and Dhyuti Gopalakrishna ’23, advised by faculty members, led sixteen students on the Army Team through a STEM curriculum that included Website Design, Electric Circuits and Soldering, Robotics Coding, Fluid Dynamics and Rocket Design, Structures and Triangles, and Bridge Building. The Army team won two out of the three competitions (Robots and Rockets).

The Army West Point Athletics Association’s Academic Support team has announced its Corps Squad Athletes for January in CDT Aaron Duhart ’22 of Men’s Basketball, CDT Kate Murray ’22 of Women’s Basketball, and Rifle’s CDT Anusha Pakkam ’24. The trio joins ten other scholar-athletes that have been honored during the 2021-22 academic year. Full story.

The WPAOG Brick and Paver Program allows graduates and friends of West Point to etch a meaningful inscription on a brick or paver that will be placed on the historic grounds surrounding the James K. Herbert Alumni Center. This is a great way for graduates and families to leave a legacy behind and commemorate their West Point experience. The next deadline is March 1 for the spring installation.   Six From Women’s Rugby Earn All-NIRA Honors
   

Army West Point Women’s Rugby placed five cadet-athletes on the 2021-22 All-NIRA Division I First Fifteen. Army swept the lock position with CDT Kaylee Cargile ’23 and CDT Naomi Colin ’22 receiving the four and five positions. CDT Julia Riekena ’23 earned a spot as a flanker, while CDT Emma Gamboa ’25 collected the scrumhalf position. CDT Sophia Linder’s ’25 phenomenal first year with the Black Knights earned her a spot on the list as a center. CDT Codi Butt ’23 garnered Honorable Mention for Army. Full story.

  Women’s Swimming & Diving Earns CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Honors
   

Thanks to a strong academic showing during the Fall 2021 semester, Army West Point Women’s Swimming & Diving received Scholar All-America Team honors from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The Black Knights finished the term with a GPA of 3.09 to secure the award for the first time since the spring 2020 semester, an effort led by CDT Sammie Edwards ’22 with a 3.73 GPA. The senior was one of six Cadets to finish with a mark above 3.50. Full story.
