CDT Daniel Olson ’26 Presented with Flipper Award
The Flipper Award commemorates the qualities of perseverance and courage exemplified by Henry O. Flipper (1877) throughout his service to the nation and is presented to a First Class cadet who has embodied the same qualities. Before entering USMA, CDT Olson enlisted in the New York Army National Guard as a 12N Construction Engineer, served as a recruiter, and deployed to the Southwest border for 14 months, all while studying at SUNY Delhi and preparing his application to West Point. After losing his father at just 20, he became the foundation of his family, supporting his mother and putting his younger brother through college. Despite profound personal loss and responsibility, he has remained steadfast in his duty, leading with resilience, strength, and quiet compassion.
